Dr. Courtney Mills

Dr. Courtney Mills

Licensed Veterinarian, 8 yrs experience

(1) reviews

Dr. Courtney Mills understands that saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the hardest moments in a pet parent’s life. After earning both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees from Cornell University, she began her career in general practice in San Diego, where she discovered her passion for end-of-life care. She found that supporting families through difficult decisions and providing peaceful, in-home euthanasia was the most meaningful work she could do. In 2024, Dr. Mills, her husband, and their 13-year-old border collie mix, Delilah, moved to Jacksonville, Florida, to be closer to family—and to let Delilah enjoy her golden years in the sunshine. She is honored to help Jacksonville families navigate their pets' final moments with love and compassion. From a young age, Dr. Mills knew she wanted to dedicate her life to medicine and to caring for those who couldn’t help themselves. While working as a general practitioner, she felt deeply connected to families facing the end-of-life journey with their pets. She created a space where they could openly discuss quality of life, grief, and love, but she soon realized that the traditional clinical setting wasn’t enough. In 2020, she transitioned fully to end-of-life care, ensuring that pets could pass peacefully in the comfort of home. Here, they raised and trained Tennessee Walking Horses and Paso Fino gaited horses, igniting Tom's passion for caring for animals. Early in high school, he had the privilege of working with local clinics, exposing him to the daily challenges and rewards of working with pets and livestock. Tom pursued his education at the University of Missouri, studying pre-med and Veterinary Medicine. The driving force behind Tom's choice to become a veterinarian was a deep admiration for the profession's essence. He saw veterinarians as compassionate problem solvers, advocating for creatures who couldn't voice their pain or needs. Tom found the responsibility of finding remedies for ailing or injured pets deeply noble. As a care provider and a pet parent himself, he understands the profound emotional bond between humans and their animals. Over the years, he's witnessed the remarkable advancements in pain management and palliative care for pets. Tom believes that the veterinarian's primary role is to alleviate stress, anxiety, pain, and fear during the difficult decision of euthanasia. He recognizes the importance of providing a peaceful in-home experience that contrasts with the hustle and bustle of a clinic, offering quiet comfort during such a sensitive time. Beyond his dedication to veterinary medicine, Tom finds solace in woodworking and creating stained glass art. He enjoys the thrill of mountain biking and spends time with his two bird dogs. His career spans 40 years, initially involving livestock and equine care in Clay and Platte County, Missouri. Over time, his focus shifted entirely to small animal clinical medicine, with a particular passion for surgery and managing allergic diseases. Tom's journey also led him to love and family, as he met his wife through veterinary care for her horse. They now share their lives with two energetic Weimaraners and indulge in the unique hobby of pigeon racing. Dr. Tom Del Pico's enduring commitment to animals and their well-being is a testament to his lifelong passion for veterinary care.

I'm a dedicated veterinarian with a strong passion for animals and their well-being. With 6 years of experience in veterinary services, I have honed my skills and expertise to provide top-notch care to dogs and cats. My primary focus is on delivering compassionate and personalized veterinary services to pets in the comfort of their own homes, particularly specializing in in-home pet euthanasia. Growing up on a Pulled Hereford farm in Lambertville, NJ, I was fortunate to be surrounded by animals and the animal care industry. My mother worked as a veterinary technician, and my father was involved with an animal pharmaceutical company. This upbringing immersed me in the world of animals from an early age. Alongside my hobbies of rhythmic gymnastics, ballet, and active participation in 4-H, I developed a deep appreciation for the unique bond between humans and animals. When the time came for college, I attended Clemson University, where I pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. It was during my time at Clemson that I also fell in love with football, further broadening my interests and experiences. Following my undergraduate studies, I moved to Kansas, where I had the privilege of spending time with my two living great-grandmothers. It was there that I delved into the public health program at Kansas State University while simultaneously preparing to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. In 2016, my dedication and hard work paid off when I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Kansas State University. Equipped with a strong foundation and a burning passion for animal welfare, I embarked on my journey as an associate veterinarian just outside Kansas City. Over the course of six fulfilling years, I cultivated a deep appreciation for surgical procedures and the unique connections formed with clients and their beloved pets. In 2022, I made a life-changing decision to relocate to Iowa, where I established my own business. This endeavor allowed me to provide relief veterinary services to local clinics while also fulfilling my heartfelt commitment to offering in-home pet euthanasia services. It brings me great satisfaction to bring comfort and peace to pets and their owners during these challenging times. Beyond my professional life, farming holds a special place in my heart. I currently reside on a hobby farm, where I share my life with a variety of animals that have become cherished members of my family. I enjoy spending time outdoors, engaging in activities such as hiking, fishing, and hunting. During moments of relaxation, I find solace and creative expression in crafting, particularly through knitting. Among my personal pets are three delightful dogs—Finn, Jolene, and Trace—who provide endless joy and companionship to me and my family. Additionally, our four cats—Angus, Oliver, Lola, and Rooster—warm our hearts and keep the farm rodent-free. Alice and Hodie, our two lovable donkeys, play important roles as companions and protectors of our sheep. Our diverse poultry, including peafowl, ducks, and guineas, bring life and entertainment to the farm while contributing to its ecosystem. The friendly Gotland sheep not only have lovely personalities but also provide lambs and fleece every year, adding to the farm's vibrancy. For me, veterinary medicine is not just a profession but a true calling. It brings me immense happiness to care for animals and contribute to their well-being. Knowing that I am making a positive impact in the lives of both animals and their human companions is what drives me each day. With my extensive experience, genuine love for animals, and unwavering commitment to providing the best veterinary care, you can trust that your beloved pets will receive the utmost compassion and expertise under my care.

Throughout my undergraduate years, I worked at a veterinary clinic and gained invaluable hands-on experience. After graduation, I worked briefly in a high-volume emergency facility before joining my current clinic, where I have been for the past 10 years. For the past 5 years, I have served as an Area Chief of Staff, overseeing multiple hospitals across Ohio while continuing to practice. Being a veterinarian has always been my calling. I am passionate about providing comfort to animals and their families, especially during end-of-life care. Mental health is just as important to me as physical health, and I take pride in supporting both my patients and their people in any way I can. When I am not at work, I love spending time with my family. My husband and I have been married for 12 years and we have two young children. I enjoy yoga, gardening, painting, and listening to audiobooks. And, of course, I have my own furry family members: a 70-pound red mutt named Gordon (who always wears a bow tie on his collar) and two cats named Zeke and Fitz. Fun fact - all of my pets have middle names!

Northland Veterinary Hospital was built. The practice moved to the south side of Barry Road in April of 2018. The new clinic is beautiful. It is clean, bright, and well-appointed with all the best equipment and fixtures and it is a place where Dr. Roberts is proud to provide high quality veterinary services. Dr. Karen Whala has always had a soft spot for the older pets she’s treated in practice and saw a need for these beloved pets to pass peacefully at home rather than in a clinic setting. To that end, she started Peaceful Passing in 2018 to help families assist their terminally ill, injured, or suffering pets as they transitioned from life in the Fresno and Clovis areas. She finds that pets are so much more relaxed and peaceful when they pass at home, and it is truly a gift owners give their furry friends. Dr. Karen grew up in the Eastern foothills of Fresno County in the small towns of Dunlap and Miramonte. She obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science and Management at UC Davis. During her youth, she operated a children’s petting zoo and traveled to schools, birthday parties, and library functions educating children on animal care. Her animals included everything from iguanas and ducklings to lambs and frogs, and it was during these formative pet-owning years that she decided to become a veterinarian. In 2006, Dr. Karen graduated with her veterinary degree from UC Davis. She began practicing at a local area mixed animal practice and worked with dairy cattle, horses, dogs, and cats and later transitioned to small animals exclusively. She took a few years break from private practice, during which she earned a Masters in Public Health and Board Certification in Veterinary Preventive Medicine. When Dr. Karen returned to private practice, it was to start Peaceful Passing. Dr. Karen currently lives in Fresno (though secretly wishes to live in the country again), helping families assist in the peaceful passing of their pets, volunteering with Pathfinders (a boys and girls club), backpacking, and hosting friends in her home. ‍

She was super sweet and caring. She made a very difficult day a calming experience. She explained everything that she would be doing, and even expressed sympathy for what we were going through. Our little dog was right there the whole time and let her smell and lay with her sister. I truly felt she understood what was happening, because it seemed her grieving process only lasted a few days. The packaging of everything bringing our baby home to rest was beautiful as well. I would highly recommend her if you find yourself in this situation. Thank you so much Dr Vernon.

Dr. Hsia was amazing. He asked questions and evaluated our dog to confirm she was ready to go. He was patient, kind and clearly cared about our pet. He gave us and our other dogs time with her before and after, and showed great care when he took her with him. About a week later he brought us a beautiful box with her ashes. Was such a relief to have her comfortable at home with her family around and not have to go back to the vet office. Thank you!!

Amy was awesome. Very nice, went at a pace we were ok with. Such a horrible thing to go through but Amy let us spend as much time - before and after - and I really appreciated that.

Dr. Lisa Fieg was very accommodating and compassionate while providing in-home euthanasia services for my rapidly declining Basset Hound. She came out the same night after hearing that my dog was experiencing seizures. I highly recommend her for anytime one has to euthanize their pet and wants to have it done at home.

Using at home pet euthanasia, was the best decision I made. To have a pet pass in a home that he had so many memories and where so much love given made the experience peaceful for not only him but myself. I will recommend Dr Rebecca and this way to anyone who ask. I encourage anyone to use this service to help it be private and special moment between an owner and a pet. Travis and I will always have that moment and it’s all thanks to Dr Rebecca and this service.
