Why I provide at-home pet euthanasia

Growing up I always new that I wanted to be a veterinarian. I do not remember ever considering another career. After graduating veterinary school I initially went into equine practice, and actually completed an equine surgery residency in Leesburg, VA. However, after having my daughter in late 2022, I knew I needed to change career paths. Providing in-home euthanasia allows me to provide personalized and vital care to owners and pets in my area while supporting a family-oriented lifestyle.

What pet parents are saying

Dr. Lowman is very kind and caring. She helped us get through this difficult parting with support and understanding. She was also kind enough to return at a later date in with Blu’s urn. We will always be grateful for her helping us during this emotionally painful time.

It seems an odd thing to give 5 stars for an in home pet euthanasia service. But, from the care of the phone call and the event itself...it felt like another member of our family was helping us through this terrible time and celebration of our small dog's life. Ava dog was 15.5 when she passed and suddenly in a lot of pain. Dr. Megan Lowman opened up and added a 9pm appointment to her schedule to help our sweet Ava in her time of need. She was careful, caring, loving, soft spoken, informative, and patient. The back of her van was set up like a small, clean and beautiful little bed... to take our baby girl to In Memorial Pet Cremation Services (also, 5 stars...I can't say enough kind words) . She was attentive and must have listened to all of the emotional stories and nonsense I was saying...because she sent a detailed and very personal card a few days later that mentioned our family members' names and even personal details about Ava's life. Thank you, Dr. Lowman and the wonderfully caring customer service at CodaPet for making this transition as caring and loving as possible.

Charlie came to us back in 2013 from a friend in North Carolina. Since then, Charlie traveled the world with us until we settled in Virginia. By this time our little buddy was hanging on, but his body slowly started to fade until he was no longer able to move on his own. Sadly, when it came time to send our angle back to heaven, we turned to Coda Pet who sent us Dr. Lowman. I'll be honest... She is the definition of professionalism, courtesy, empathy, you name it. She was a godsend who was present in the moment, caring, and made the process feel seamless. There was no unnecessary conversation, no judgement, and she was very supportive of our decision given his condition. The entire process felt very genuine from the initial phone call to our interaction with Dr Lowman to picking up his remains. If I thought for a second that Charlie was going to somehow pull out of his condition, I never would have made the call, and they reenforced that sentiment. That if at any time we felt that this was the wrong decision we could pull out. So, all that to say I am so lucky to have had this experience made less tragic by the loving and caring and professional team at Coda Pet. We even got a handwritten card from Dr Lowman. I mean come on. They truly care about you, and it shows. ❤❤❤

Dr Megan Lowman was extremely empathetic, kind, patient as we put down our beloved dog. She gave us all the time we needed, made sure our dog was not in pain and went to sleep peacefully.

There are endless things I could say about Dr. Megan Lowman, yet somehow none of them feel big enough to truly capture who she is. It may sound corny to say she has wings on her back—but sometimes the most heartfelt truths do sound that way. Because she does. From the moment she walks through the door, her empathy, kindness, and love fill every corner of the room. Dr. Megan has now guided us through saying goodbye to two beloved family members—first Paddington, and most recently, Teddy. When we learned what Teddy was facing, I knew instantly that she was the only person I wanted by our side. She doesn’t just provide a service; she feels like family. She understands your heartbreak without you needing to explain it, and she stays fully present, offering steady compassion and genuine love in every moment. I felt an immediate connection to her during Paddington’s passing—a deep sense of gratitude and trust from the very beginning. So, when it was Teddy’s time, there was no question that we needed that same tenderness and grace. And once again, the moment she arrived, the fear, anxiety, and overwhelming sadness softened. In their place, she brought calm, comfort, and peace. Dr. Megan, you are truly extraordinary. Your compassion fills a space in a way that words can hardly describe. I am profoundly grateful—for your kindness, your warmth, and the love you showed my sweet Teddy. The difference you made in our home during such a painful moment is something I will always carry with me. I am also deeply thankful to you and to Codpet for providing such a gentle, thoughtful service. Being able to let Teddy fall asleep in my office—one of his favorite places—without the disruption of a car ride, without stress or confusion, and without making that heartbreaking drive home alone… it was more than I could have hoped for. It was a gift. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, Krista Geller.

Megan was absolutely wonderful and empathetic. She gave us plenty of space to mourn while gently walking us through the process. Megan made our final goodbyes to Lucky as peaceful as possible and I can’t give high enough praise for her professionalism and ability to navigate a difficult situation. Thank you a million times to Megan for the work she does.
