Dr. Alicia Nolfi is a highly experienced veterinarian dedicated to providing compassionate in-home pet euthanasia services. Originally from a close-knit family outside of Pittsburgh, PA, she developed a profound love for animals from an early age. After graduating from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science and a Minor in Psychology, Dr. Nolfi pursued her passion for veterinary medicine at the University of Minnesota's College of Veterinary Medicine, where she obtained her DVM degree in 2009. Throughout her career, Dr. Nolfi has made a significant impact in the communities she has served. After moving to Colorado in 1997, she has become deeply involved in veterinary practice, particularly in the Gunnison Valley and now the Roaring Fork Valley. Her commitment to family, animals, and the humane treatment of all beings has been the driving force behind her career choice. For Dr. Nolfi, veterinary medicine is not just a profession; it is her calling. While initially focusing on agricultural animal practice, Dr. Nolfi further specialized in advanced progressive equine podiatry practice. However, she discovered another calling within her veterinary journey — providing compassionate end-of-life care for animals. This profound realization led her to recognize the value of helping animals experience a stress-free, compassionate, and pain-free passing, while also supporting pet owners in their decision-making process during such a challenging time. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Nolfi finds immense joy in spending time with her family, friends, and the animals that enrich their lives. Embracing the beauty of all seasons, she appreciates the simple pleasures of hiking, camping, and engaging in physical activities to stay healthy and connected with nature. Dr. Nolfi's family shares their lives with a delightful array of dogs, cats, chickens, and horses, which further solidifies their deep connection to animals and the land. With her extensive experience, genuine compassion, and dedication to providing peaceful end-of-life care, Dr. Alicia Nolfi is ready to support pet owners and their beloved companions during the most challenging moments.

How at home pet euthanasia works

During in-home pet euthanasia, your veterinarian will arrive in regular clothes and bring the necessary tools. They will spend around 15 to 45 minutes in your home, providing compassion and understanding to ensure a peaceful experience for both you and your pet. The actual procedure takes about 15 minutes, allowing you time to be with your pet before and after if desired. You can choose the location for the procedure and decide whether or not to be present. Treats for your pet may be helpful, and your veterinarian will explain the process based on your comfort level. Family members can gather nearby, as long as they remain calm. When you're ready, the veterinarian will begin the procedure. Afterward, they will ask if you need more time and discuss aftercare options such as handling the body or arranging cremation, ensuring utmost gentleness and respect.

Dr. Nolfi was so incredibly compassionate and supportive. My family felt that we were being guided by an expert hand. She was sensitive to our feelings and desires, made absolutely sure my dog was comfortable and not stressed, and turned an otherwise devastating event into an experience that made me realize that euthanasia of our pets is really the best thing we can give them at the end of their lives. But more than that, I now believe that an in-home pet euthanasia is the best way to do it. In addition to the honorable and compassionate way Dr. Nolfi guided the process, she also said some things that completely shifted my perspective away from grief and sadness. She helped me understand her belief that animals don’t necessarily see death as tragic or sad, but that they see it as an expected part of the journey of life. This, and the absolute assurance that my dog was comfortable, calm, and unaware of anything wrong, has helped me deal with the grief in a much more positive way. Dr. Nolfi joined us in our tears after learning about my dog and his life, which showed me that she not only cares deeply for her patients (human and animal), but that her work in making the process as comfortable as possible is deeply personal. She was also kind enough to give my family some space when the procedure was finished, but honestly I would have been happy if she had stayed; that is how comfortable we all felt with her. If you need an absolute expert, a compassionate and caring vet, and someone who considers this tragic work important enough to dedicate herself to it full-time, please use Dr. Nolfi for your next in-home pet euthanasia. She is unequivocally the best.

Alicia was amazing. She is kind and patient. Informed us of each step in the process. We told stories and laughed and cried. It was a beautiful and fitting passing for our dog and Alicia was just wonderful. This is a very hard thing to do and having someone as caring as Alicia makes it just a little easier.
