From my experiences in general practice hospitals, it is clear to see how so many pets get extremely anxious when visiting the vet. Even if your pet LOVES the vet, hospitals have a mixture of appointment types like new puppy exams, and cat visits, and the environment can be busy and overwhelming on a day that is already difficult enough for you and your family. Vet offices do their best to provide quiet and peaceful grieving rooms for pet euthanasias, but this isn't always logistically possible in a busy practice setting. There really is no place like home for this very private and delicate family matter. Providing services in the home allows the entire family to be present, in a familiar place where everyone feels comfortable, especially the beloved pet.
